For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Engineering, Environmental Science or a Sustainability related field. This outstanding opportunity will provide the successful candidate with practical experience in closure and reclamation planning, biodiversity management, and sustainability initiatives at a mining operation. The position will work with the Senior Closure Lead, Biodiversity Lead, alongside other internal and external professionals to support the planning and delivery of closure, biodiversity and reclamation initiatives across all aspects of Red Dog’s operations!
For this role, we offer a unique rotation schedule with 4 weeks on-site followed by 2 weeks off-site. You must also currently be a student enrolled in an American or Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Red Dog Operations is one of the world's largest zinc mines, located about 170 kilometers (105 miles) north of the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska, near Kotzebue. Red Dog is an open-pit truck-and-loader operation, using conventional drill and blast mining methods. Concentrates produced at Red Dog are shipped to our metallurgical facilities in Trail, British Columbia, and to customers in Asia and Europe. The current mine life, based on existing developed deposits, is expected to extend through to 2031.
This position operates on a four-weeks on, two-weeks off, fly-in, fly-out rotation, providing an excellent work-life balance. Transportation to and from the mine site will be covered. The mine site is a camp environment and all food and lodging is provided. On-site living accommodations also have many amenities to make life at the mine very comfortable. These include a gymnasium, indoor track, weightlifting rooms, a library/media room, craft and music rooms, and a cafeteria where you are served three home-cooked meals a day. Salary Range: $4000 - $5100 / Month
Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
