This position leads the enterprise-wide HR communications strategy and plan, partnering closely with senior HR leaders to connect over 43,000 employees with Chevron's people strategy and HR function. It requires superior people management skills and relationship management expertise to counsel and advise senior leadership of the HR function. The role must be familiar with numerous aspects of the communications function, including strategic communications planning, employee engagement, media relations, crisis management, digital communications and event management. It also requires the ability to set strategic direction, align and inspire team members, define standards and assure quality of services and support across a broad spectrum of audiences (workforce, leaders, executives, etc.). The position will guide internal and external communications strategies, messages and tactics to ensure positive, consistent and effective positioning of HR. As the HR Communications Manager you will: Strategy & Leadership
  • Own the development and execution of an HR communications strategy that's informed by the enterprise people strategy.
  • Lead the annual development of an integrated communications plan to drive enterprise awareness and engagement with HR priorities. Direct communications programs in support of HR priorities.
  • Direct internal and external communications strategies, messages and tactics to ensure positive, consistent representation of HR. Actively conveys messages to key stakeholders and third parties in support of the enterprise people strategy.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel and support to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and the Human Resources Leadership Team (HRLT) in partnership with CHRO Communications Advisor.
  • Align closely across the Communications team and Corporate Affairs more broadly to ensure cohesive approach and cadence to corporate communications. Collaborate to set the overall strategy for HR/people messaging.
  • Oversee communication vehicles and key messages designed to inform and engage the workforce about key strategies, priorities and programs for HR.
  • Establish an overarching measurement strategy for HR communications, leveraging performance metrics and audience sentiment to measure success and drive improvements at a regular cadence.
  • Monitor effectiveness of team performance and measure impact of work efforts. Regularly share data and insights with the HRLT.
  • Work to ensure alignment and coordination of communications across segments and functions.
  • Relationship Management/Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior-level stakeholders across HR, Corporate Affairs and beyond. Serve as a trusted advisor and communications expert for CHRO and HRLT. Diplomatically influence outcomes leading to permission to innovate.
    • Provide strategic counsel and project oversight for critical business issues, key initiatives and high-priority communications projects across the HR portfolio. Occasionally execute highly sensitive or confidential communications materials.
    • Be an active member of the Communications LT and HRLT.
    • Cultivate One Team mindset with colleagues across Corporate Affairs center to support external events and engagements for HRLT.
    • Proactively partners with communications colleagues across the enterprise to ensure communications reinforce HR and people strategy messaging.
    Management and Coaching:
    • Oversee and manage ~10 direct reports and ~5 contractors. Build a successful team by establishing clear direction, defined roles and responsibilities and specific scope of services and service level agreements.
    • Assess team operating model and structure to determine efficacy and drive change as needed to ensure the team is meeting expectations.
    • Cultivate consistency, collaboration, efficiency and knowledge management across the team through standards, protocols and processes.
    • Bring a change leadership and One Team mindset to foster an optimized, agile and innovative HR Communications team.
    • Manage employee experience and well-being across the HR Communications team, ensuring team has sufficient resources to meet the client demands.
    • Manage performance and career development for HR Communications team, including providing regular feedback and coaching to help them reach their full potential.
    • Be responsible for the HR Communications budget and resources, including relationships with agency partners.
    • Coach team with complex communications requests by providing guidance and removing barriers.
    • Coach team members to deliver high-quality content and work products for a wide variety of audiences. Work products may include key messages, leader letters, talking points, presentations, webcasts/videos, website/newsroom content, town halls/events and social media posts.
    Requirements
    • 10+ Years of experience in employee/HR communications within a large global organization.
    • 10+ years in a leadership role within a large, global organization, directing a team of 5+ full-time employees.
    • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business administration or a related field.
    • Ability to build and maintain positive, constructive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders in HR and Corporate Affairs.
    • Effectively coach and counsel senior leaders as a trusted strategic communications advisor. Utilizes tact, diplomacy and directness when navigating sensitive topics and influencing stakeholders.
    • Proven supervisory capability and experience.
    • Experience setting strategic direction and cultivating an aligned, inspired and high-performing team.
    • Ability to lead program/project work and convene teams to achieve business results.
    • Demonstrated ability to be proactive and work independently and with teams in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
    • Ability to build plans necessary for successful deliverable execution and prioritize activities with the greatest impact to the business.
    • Ability to identify and manage critical interdependencies and proactively resolve issues.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate business objectives, goals and strategies into effective communications.
    • Ability to stay head of the changing communications landscape and adapt communications to improve effectiveness.
    • Proven track record of monitoring data and analytics to measure impact, inform prioritization and driving innovation.
