Job Description

Position : Intake Specialist/Driver

Location : Anchorage, Alaska

Division : Anchorage Safety Patrol/Center (ASP/C)

Reports To: Operations Supervisor

OVERVIEW :

The Intake Specialist/Driver plays a crucial role in the operations of the Anchorage Safety Center (ASC), providing support and care to individuals who are incapacitated due to substance use. This position requires a compassionate individual capable of handling intake procedures, driving, ensuring client safety, and maintaining the ASC's policies and procedures with professionalism and care. The Intake Specialist/Driver works closely with EMTs and other staff to provide a safe and respectful environment for clients to sober up.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Client Intake: Conduct intake assessments for incoming clients, including documentation, personal property inventory, and initial health and safety checks. Ensure all procedures are performed with respect and dignity.
  • Monitoring and Safety : Regularly monitor the condition of clients undergoing the sobering process, ensuring their safety and well-being. This includes performing health and safety checks as prescribed by the ASC policies.
  • Facility Maintenance : Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the client areas, including the handling and sanitization of mats, blankets, and other supplies.
  • De-escalation and Support : Employ nonviolent de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations with clients, ensuring a safe environment for both clients and staff.
  • Documentation : Accurately document client information and incident reports as per the ASC policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Training and Development : Participate in required training and certification courses to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge related to the role.
  • Team Collaboration : Work closely with all co-workers to ensure the smooth operation of the ASP/C. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse client population.
  • Commitment to work compassionately with those affected by substance use, mental health issues, and homelessness.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, potentially stressful environment with individuals in crisis.
  • Willingness to work weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have had a valid driver's license for three years.
  • Clean driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with individuals affected by substance use, mental health issues, and homelessness.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services for individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and mental health issues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as assisting clients and moving supplies.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, tuberculosis (TB) test, and background check along with providing a clean Driving Record.
