Job Description

Job Title: Plumber Location: Detroit, MI Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview: The Plumber will be responsible for performing skilled plumbing work, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment. This position requires working independently under the general supervision of the Plumber Foreman and adhering to standard trade practices. Duties may be performed at county buildings, with some tasks potentially involving work above ground level in environments with potential hazards, such as correctional facilities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled plumbing tasks, including assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, building codes, and specifications to plan work details and procedures.
  • Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipes using hand or power tools and specialized machines.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, appliances, and green plumbing systems, such as tankless water heaters and flow restrictors.
  • Conduct inspections to assess materials, equipment needs, and sequence of installation or repair tasks.
  • Test plumbing systems for leaks using gauges and identify necessary repairs.
  • Maintain records of work assignments and provide project time, material, and labor estimates.
  • Supervise and direct helpers or other staff in pipe cutting, preassembly, or system installation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and conduct health and safety inspections.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes or fittings and anchor supports for pipe placement.
  • Inspect and maintain underground piping systems and other plumbing installations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship Program.
  • Valid State of Michigan Plumber's License.
  • Master Plumber License (Preferred, not required).
Experience Requirements: * Journeyman Plumber with proven experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair. Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and in potentially hazardous environments.
