Role Overview:

As a Regional Training Specialist, you will supervise and provide oversight for training programs within their assigned region. You will provide specialized instruction for employees of the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC). You will work under the supervision of the Regional Training Manager in program design, implementation, and administration of training programs. In addition, you will coordinate and supervise various training programs, including Phase 3 Academy, operating within the confines of established guidelines. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Five (5) years of full-time professional experience in corrections, education, in-service training, or related experience. At least one (1) year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of the Division of Workforce Engagement, including Administrative Procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of adult training and educational theories, methods, principles, practices, techniques, and assessment tools.
  • Working knowledge of available resources including the American Correctional Association (ACA), National Institute of Corrections, Bureau of Justice Statistics – Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, etc. 
  • Advanced knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA standards, and departmental policy and procedure.
  • Ability to conduct research and remain abreast of new developments in correctional training. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans.

 

Essential Responsbilites:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supervise and approve working schedules, overseeing performance management, training, discipline, and approving time and labor for all subordinate staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and evaluate training programs to achieve agency goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and instruct new employees on on-the-job training. 
  • Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards.
  • Prepare and distribute Training Needs Assessment for the facility/division.
  • Ensure that all training programs, procedures, methods, and standards comply with established standards.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership to enhance the learning environment and performance of employees.
  • Maintain a variety of training records, and course information, and prepare written reports.
  • Collaborate with other Trainers on joint training programs.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing corrective actions and opportunities to continue professional development.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
