Job Description  

Job Title:  Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU

Location:  Ithaca, New York Area

Shift:  Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift

Length of Assignment: 13 weeks

Job Overview:

This position will work collaboratively with Unit leadership to follow the scope of practice for nursing governing bodies that apply to Maternal Child Health (AWONN, ACOG, NNA, AORN). These responsibilities will include the observation data collection, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, emotional educational and spiritual needs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assesses patients and families, whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and quickly recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status based on past clinical experience. Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care plans and in prioritizing nursing care to meet patient and family needs.
• Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
• Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of patients and families. Demonstrates initiative in remaining current policies, procedures and standards. Acts as a resource to peers.
• Interventions for the attainment of care goals reflect resourceful involvement of team members. Facilitates the linking of patients and families with other disciplines and services as needed.

Requirements: 

Education  - Minimum of an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing.

License/Certification -  Certification in BLS upon hire, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire. Current NYS RN license

Experience  - Preferred with knowledge of post-partum.

Physical Requirements - Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of the computer keyboard) light lifting in regards to patient care. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.
