Responsibilities:
At the Employment Law Center of Maryland, you'll have the autonomy to manage your own cases while always feeling supported by your supervisors, colleagues, and professional staff. Our attorneys take the lead in litigating discrimination, wrongful termination, and wage theft cases, making this an excellent opportunity for:
• Entry-level attorneys seeking hands-on experience in civil rights litigation.
• Mid-level attorneys looking for a more welcoming, flexible, and healthy firm culture.
Your daily responsibilities may include: • Advocating for Clients – Meeting with clients (remotely or in person) to assess their cases and develop legal strategies.
• Legal Writing & Strategy – Drafting demand letters, pleadings, motions, and correspondence to opposing counsel.
• Case Investigation – Interviewing witnesses and gathering key evidence.
• Litigation & Discovery – Taking and defending depositions, drafting discovery requests and responses, and preparing for hearings.
• Courtroom Advocacy – Arguing motions, attending status conferences, and representing clients in bench or jury trials.
If you're looking for a meaningful litigation role in a supportive and flexible work environment, we’d love to hear from you!
Qualifications:
You are highly motivated, eager to take on new challenges, and thrive in a collaborative environment. You’re not just looking for a job—you’re looking for a mission-driven legal career where you can make a real impact.
You Have: • A current license to practice law in Maryland. • 0-3 years of civil litigation experience (new attorneys are encouraged to apply, and attorneys with more than 3 years of experience will also be considered).
• The ability to work at least one day per week at our Urbana, MD office
• A strong interest in civil rights and/or employment law.
At the Employment Law Center of Maryland, we are a client-centered law firm. This means we prioritize empathetic, passionate advocacy and frequent communication with clients. If you enjoy building strong relationships with clients and are committed to ensuring their voices are heard, you’ll fit right in—client satisfaction is our highest-weighted performance metric.
About Company:
Recently named a finalist for the prestigious Reisman Award for Legal Impact, awarded to a small number of law firms around the United States that are “transforming the practice of law,” judges observed that “the Employment Law Center of Maryland walks the talk.” By making first-class employment law services affordable for all, the Employment Law Center of Maryland helps more Maryland workers stand up for their civil rights.
