Miller Welding Automation is a growing division of Miller Electric Mfg. LLC, an Illinois Tool Works affiliate, focused on creating customer success with robotic and automated welding solutions.  We design and manufacture a full line of automation equipment and serve a broad range of industry segments, from Heavy Equipment and Agriculture to Automotive and Aerospace.

This role is critical to developing customer-focused welding solutions and supporting our automation sales team. You’ll play a key role in designing, testing, and documenting custom welding programs and procedures, working hands-on with state-of-the-art welding automation technologies to drive success for our industrial manufacturing clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop & Document Custom Welding Solutions : Create, measure, and document automated weld processes and performance using analytical tools and technology, focusing on tailored solutions that address customer-specific needs.
  • Customer Support & Collaboration : Provide world-class support to our customers, actively collaborating with our automation sales specialists in presentations, on-site visits, and in developing tailored welding solutions that address specific customer pain points.
  • Technical Leadership in Robotic Programming : Perform and support robotic programming, including offline simulations, to refine and improve automated weld processes.
  • Support Offline Robotic Programming Initiatives : Deliver industry-leading support and advanced technical knowledge for our growing offline robotic programming product portfolio.
  • Reporting & Content Creation : Prepare customer reports and create video documentation of welding processes to facilitate transparency and showcase solution benefits.
  • R&D and Continuous Innovation : Contribute to R&D automation projects, supporting introducing new technologies and refining current welding solutions to stay at the forefront of the industry.
  • Travel & Industry Engagement : Travel up to 25% for customer support, trade shows, and industry events, with some flexibility to align with project demands and customer needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience :

  • BS in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, and other engineering/technical degrees considered with appropriate welding industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in welding automation or a related field, solid understanding of welding equipment, power sources (Miller, Panasonic, etc.), and offline robotic programming.
  • Familiar with communication and protocols between welding systems, robotic systems, and process supervision.

What you need to do to be successful in this role:

  • Experience in customer support or technical sales is a plus, as well as strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
  • High personal confidence and ability to be assertive. Can be direct as well as diplomatic.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and a team player with good planning and multitasking organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates honesty, keeps commitments, and behaves consistently.

Compensation:

Salary Range : The Welding Engineer - Automation compensation package offers a competitive base salary annually. This range is dependent on the geographic location, the successful candidate’s qualification, and prior experience. We are committed to maintaining equitable and competitive salaries across different regions through regular reviews and adjustments.​
